One of the favourite anime episodes of all time, which felt like a major turning point for the whole series. Shinji's leaving was tense, only to have him return, fight Zereul showed how trapped he was. The animation, sound design, and horror elements add so much to this, making it one of the more emotionally disturbing scenes in Evangelion.

This episode is frequently cited as the absolute peak of the series' action, but it still has dark, intense moments. It shows that the unit of Eva pilots isn't strong enough to defeat the Angel Zeruel.
