I may be biased bc this is my second watch. At first I hated Hinata's character bc she's so timid. But my perspective has changed a lot since then. Neji was really mean here 🥺

One of the best early episodes too that spotlights the other characters in the series. The Hyuga clan's whole gimmick is so rich!

Hinata's trembling when Neji was tearing her down felt so real, I genuinely wondered if she'd break completely. But then, seeing her remember Naruto and just *stand* there, eyes suddenly ablaze, totally changed my perspective on her; it was like she finally found her own resolve instead of just being scared.

That whole family drama with Neji is awful because of how he talked about her destiny being fixed, but seeing Hinata stand up after all that psychological warfare was so powerful. My favorite part was Naruto losing his mind in the stands and cheering her on because it clearly changed her entire mood and gave her the strength to actually push back against the branch house drama

It is crazy how much lore they dropped about the Hyuga clan and that cursed seal on Neji explains a lot but he still did not have to be that mean

Watching the Gentle Fist style actually destroy internal organs is terrifying and it makes Hinata standing her ground against those palm strikes way more impressive than it looks at first

Neji is such a jerk for bringing up that family seal stuff just to mess with her head and seeing him get actually surprised when she landed a hit felt so good

Neji is such a jerk for what he said to Hinata about her destiny and how she will always be a failure and I hope someone knocks him down a peg in the next round

Naruto screaming for Hinata made me so happy because she really needed that support while Neji was trying to tear her down with all that talk about her being a failure

Hinata refusing to back down even with her heart getting damaged by that Gentle Fist move was a huge moment for her and Neji looked legitimately rattled for a second

The tension when they both activated the Byakugan was crazy, and seeing Hinata finally stop stuttering to tell Neji he is wrong about fate was such a massive growth moment

Those visual effects for the chakra points getting hit look so cool and Neji being a total elitist about his lineage just makes it more satisfying to see Hinata finally land a blow

Naruto being the only one who believed in Hinata while everyone else expected her to lose immediately was a great touch and her refusing to stay down after his shout was awesome

My chest ached watching Hinata tremble, completely overwhelmed, but then Naruto's fierce yell cut through everything. It was incredible, like his belief in her gave her the strength to finally meet Neji's eyes without looking away. She's really growing so much!

I wanted to jump through the screen and punch Neji for being so mean to Hinata, but seeing her get back up anyway made me so proud of her
