another team 10 flashback filler that nobody asked for, watching them chase hogs and reminisce about old missions while the actual plot sits untouched - decent enough teamwork moments but you can feel your patience wearing thin during this stretch of the series

Lee getting told he cannot use the Hidden Lotus actually made me feel bad for him because he works so much harder than anyone else in the village and Guy really cares about him

I know people usually skip the filler arcs but this one with Rock Lee and Might Guy is actually worth the time, especially since it deals with Lee still recovering from his surgery, and it was so sad seeing him feel replaced by that Yagara guy while Tsunade is hovering over him to make sure he doesn't overdo it with the training

the whole mystery about Yagara being an impostor wasn't very surprising and it mostly just served as a reason to get Lee and Guy into a fight together

Lee thinking Guy replaced him was heartbreaking because they are supposed to be the ultimate team and that impostor Yagara guy is just annoying

that fight between Lee and Yagara was actually pretty well done for a filler and seeing Lee use his taijutsu while still healing up was impressive

the story with the impostor is such a random distraction and it feels like we are just killing time waiting for something important to happen while Lee mopes around

Guy sensei having a new favorite student definitely felt wrong and I hated seeing Lee get his butt kicked by Yagara like that

Tsunade telling Lee he has to slow down was a great way to show how much training means to him even while he is still recovering from that huge surgery, and seeing him struggle with that felt really grounded

the plot about a fake student trying to bait Guy is pretty obvious filler and it moves kind of slow even if the martial arts stuff is decent

I really felt for Lee when Guy started training that new guy because seeing him look so rejected after everything he went through with the surgery was just painful

This episode actually managed to be a good use of filler time by focusing on the bond between Lee and Guy, instead of just giving Naruto another random mission, and Lee dealing with the damage to his chakra network felt serious while watching him push through the pain against Yagara showed how much heart Lee has even when his body is falling apart

The training match with Yagara was actually intense since he seemed even faster than Lee and the chakra network injury made the whole fight feel dangerous

You rarely see filler that actually cares about character struggle like Lee overtraining himself and Guy bringing in Yagara to help him out

I enjoyed the focus on Lee and Guy instead of Naruto since seeing Lee struggle with his health makes his life as a ninja feel more real

Lee being told he cannot use the Hidden Lotus anymore because of his training injuries was such a gut punch for his character

Guy and Lee training together makes this filler worth watching, because it actually builds on their relationship while Naruto stays in the background for once

Tsunade giving Lee those medical check ups and telling him he overtrained himself into a corner was a really grounded way to start this episode

I thought it was cool how Yagara was actually keeping up with Lee during their match and seeing Guy try so hard to cheer Lee up was nice

You can really feel the tension when Lee gets his leg caught between the elbow and knee of Yagara and thank god those ankle weights were there to save him

EPISODE CONTEXT

Sitting at episode 195 of 220, this lands squarely in Naruto's extended filler run that bridges the gap before Shippuden. It kicks off the Third Great Beast Arc, following the standalone 'The Mysterious Curse of the Haunted Castle,' and directly sets up 'Hot-Blooded Confrontation: Student vs. Sensei,' promising an escalation of the rivalry and mentorship themes introduced here.
