a nostalgia callback episode that brings back inari and tazuna from the land of waves arc, mostly flashback content that feels more like padding than meaningful storytelling - fans generally consider this entire stretch of filler skippable but it's harmless enough if you're already watching through

The animation in this star arc is really starting to look rough and the way they keep repeating scenes of the chakra method is getting old

Akahoshi is a boring filler villain with zero depth beyond being evil and the plot just keeps circling around the same ideas

Watching Neji tell Naruto that they can't just jump in and stop a village leader is such a harsh reality check because Naruto just wants to help and the politics are getting in the way

Skip this one if you want to keep the momentum going because the star village details are just a bunch of talking about stuff that will never matter again

I am still trying to figure out why Akahoshi is being such a blatant villain and nobody in his village seems to notice how shady his purple chakra looks

The music during the big fight at the ravine totally caught me off guard and it made the whole encounter with Akahoshi feel way more intense than I expected

Watching Naruto and Neji fall into a giant hole was the only real highlight of the day and the rest was just people standing around explaining how dangerous the star training is for their bodies and it is really frustrating how these arcs just stall the story when the show should be focusing on the actual main characters and their goals

That peacock method jutsu is actually pretty creative for a filler power, and the way Akahoshi used it to surprise the group at the ravine was a solid twist

There is no reason for this mission to be this long and the whole mystery with the star is just not interesting enough to justify stopping the main plot

The star training jutsu looks cool, but the plot is moving so slowly that it makes the whole mission feel like a chore to sit through

I actually enjoyed seeing Neji get some focus and his reaction when they got blasted off the cliff by Akahoshi felt really genuine for a side story

Does anyone know that rock song when Akahoshi knocked Neji and Naruto into the ravine because that track was the only thing keeping the energy up through this filler mess

Sumaru crying about his mom was kind of sad but it is hard to get invested in a character that is definitely going to disappear as soon as this episode ends

You can tell this is filler because the animation quality took a massive dip and the story about the stolen star is not interesting enough to keep me awake

Watching Naruto get involved in another village conflict that will never be mentioned again is a bit of a slog and the Kujaku jutsu is the only decent thing about it

I actually like the mystery of the star, but it feels like the writers are just stretching things out with these random missions because the pacing is getting really bad lately. This whole arc has some cool jutsu ideas but my patience is wearing thin and I might just start skipping to the end of the original series if it stays this way

That meteor training seems like a raw deal for these kids and the way they have to sacrifice their health for power is honestly pretty depressing

If you are a completionist then the Hidden Star Village isn't the worst filler, but the pacing is so slow that you will probably find yourself checking how much time is left

The peacock method visuals were cool but I really feel like this arc is just stalling for time until the next canon arc starts

EPISODE CONTEXT

Episode 180 sits in the middle of the Star Guard Mission filler arc, following the fallout from Episode 179's star theft and Sumaru's kidnapping, which raised the stakes considerably. This chapter deepens the investigation into the star training's hidden dangers and exposes concealed motives among key players. It directly sets up Episode 181, 'Hoshikage: The Buried Truth,' where the arc's central mysteries begin to unravel toward resolution.
