this episode is wild and divisive for a reason - the animation goes completely off the rails in a way that either clicks for you or totally doesnt, but there's no denying the raw emotional intensity when naruto finally snaps and lets the nine-tails take over. the fight choreography is chaotic and surreal, almost dreamlike, and whether you love it or hate it you wont forget it

pain getting hammered into the ground like a nail was so weird and it is hard to tell if it is cool or just plain ugly

hinata stood no chance but she still went out there to save naruto and that confession was so heavy

watching naruto lose his mind after hinata got stabbed really got to me and seeing that six tails form was actually terrifying

the way pain's face distorted when he got punched looked like a cartoon and it completely killed the serious mood of the fight

It is honestly wild how Pain just stood his ground against a literal monster and that huge rock sphere he made at the end looked like the end of the world

The music during the Nine Tails transformation was so haunting and it really captured how much Naruto was losing himself to that monster inside him

I am still trying to process those visuals because Naruto looked like a literal demon of pure hatred out there. Some of the distorted faces on Pain were a little distracting, but the raw speed and the way they were crashing through mountains felt so much more visceral than any other fight we have seen in the show so far because of how much destruction they caused. It made the Fox feel genuinely unhinged.

Pain running like a cartoon character was a bit much and it made it hard to take the tragedy of Hinata seriously even though the scale of the fight was huge

Everyone is complaining about the weird faces but the fluid movement during the water scene was actually incredible and it made the fight feel way more fast and frantic than usual

I could not look away when the Fox started hammering Pain into the ground like a literal nail because it looked so much more brutal than the manga version

That Planetary Devastation move was absolutely massive, and seeing the entire landscape get ripped up into a giant ball of rock really makes you realize how crazy Pain actually is.

Seeing Naruto go totally berserk after what happened to Hinata was actually terrifying and the way the ground just disintegrated under his feet really showed how much power he was letting out

I really hated how they drew Pain in this one because he looked like a wet noodle when Naruto hit him and it ruined the atmosphere of the fight for me

Mousou having a fake face under his mask was overkill and it felt like the writers were just trying too hard to keep the mystery going until the last minute

I actually liked this arc more than most filler because the ending with Lady Toki becoming the feudal lord felt like it mattered for her character development. Naruto using the barrage combo is always a win in my book, and those water effects were surprisingly polished. I just wish Shima’s fake death didn't feel so forced just to trigger a power up

Naruto going full power with his shadow clones made for a decent finale and at least this arc actually resolved things with Toki becoming the lord

Shima falling into the water looked so bad compared to the rest of the episode and it really took me out of the moment

The water jutsu looked beautiful, but it was weird how the clones just vanished into thin air without much of a reaction

EPISODE CONTEXT

Episode 167 concludes the multi-episode Cursed Warrior Extermination Mission filler arc, directly following 'When Time Stands Still,' which unveiled the true identities and motivations driving the Land of Birds conflict. As a filler arc finale deep into Naruto's back half (episode 167 of 220), it sits squarely in the extended filler stretch between major canon events. The next episode, 'Mix It, Stretch It, Boil It Up! Burn, Copper Pot, Burn!,' shifts to a standalone story, so this marks a clean break point for viewers deciding whether to continue through the remaining filler content.
