this episode is brutal in the best way - naruto gets completely outclassed and pain's speech about the cycle of hatred hits harder than most anime monologues ever do, the tension is suffocating the entire time and that ost during the philosophical exchange is legendary

That title is such a massive troll, but the way Kakashi and the others pretended to leave just to trick the enemy was actually pretty clever for a filler episode

I actually liked seeing the Land of Birds stuff even if it is filler because it makes the world feel bigger and Naruto rescuing Koumei from prison was cool

I felt so cheated by the name of this episode and it was annoying to see such a blatant bait title for a story that has zero impact

It is funny how much effort they put into the fake out with Naruto dying when everyone knows he is the main character and obviously has to survive

I think this is one of the better filler episodes because it actually has some mystery involving Lord Sagi and the revenge plot and the title is total bait for sure but the way Naruto manages to save Koumei, while the rest of the team outsmarts the enemy, made the whole Land of Birds journey feel like it mattered

The twist with Lord Sagi and the revenge plot kept me interested and Naruto actually used his head for once to help Koumei instead of just rushing in

The title really tricked people into thinking something big was happening but it was just Naruto acting out a fake death while Kakashi and Neji set their trap

Naruto getting himself locked up just to find out the truth about Sagi is so typical for him and the cursed warrior plot finally coming together in the prison was decent

Watching the Cursed Warrior arc reach this point felt good and Naruto showing up to expose the real villain after everyone thought he was gone was cool

that title is so misleading and naruto faking his death just to solve a mystery felt like such a weird but funny way to handle a filler villain

naruto using that whole fake death scenario to draw out the cursed warrior was clever and it is rare to see him play the long game with a disguise like that

naruto pretending to be the cursed warrior while he was supposed to be locked up was a really cool way to flip the situation on sagi

I honestly got so stressed out when I saw the name of this episode because how do you even kill the main character in a filler arc, and seeing that Naruto was actually just being really smart by faking his death to draw out the real villain made it a pretty funny mystery to watch play out

It felt weird seeing a murder mystery in this show, but watching Neji and Tenten help with the distraction so Naruto could pull off that fake death prank was a nice break from the usual training stuff

I felt like a fool for believing the title but Naruto coming out of hiding after faking his death to expose the villain was a great way to end the mystery

The fake murder mystery elements gave off a serious scooby doo feel and seeing the cursed warrior reveal happen after naruto faked his own death was actually kind of fun for a filler episode

that trick with the grave was actually pretty smart and seeing kakashi and neji pretend to leave just to catch the enemy off guard made the whole mystery plot work way better than most filler

Naruto really had me worried with that episode title and then he just pops up alive because he needed to trick the Cursed Warrior and I was so relieved he was okay

This episode is such a troll with that title and it probably gave so many people a scare back in the day but the actual plot with the cursed warrior is not bad for filler and watching Naruto uncover the truth about Lord Sagi was actually decent since it felt like a detective story for a bit instead of just more ninja fighting

EPISODE CONTEXT

Episode 165 sits in the middle of the Cursed Warrior Extermination Mission arc, building directly on the revelations from 'Too Late for Help,' where Naruto's suspicions began uncovering deeper truths behind the mission. This episode escalates the arc's central mystery with higher stakes and more complex character dynamics. It sets the stage for the next installment, 'When Time Stands Still,' which moves toward resolving the enigma at the heart of this filler storyline.
