This episode is also a filler in a filler, so this is skippable: the fight between Guren's team and Kakashi with team Kurenai, but there are no signs of progression to the filler.

Episode Context

Episode 96 sits in the middle of the anime-original Three-Tails' Appearance arc, directly following 'The Two Charms' where the joint teams finalized their mission preparations. This installment escalates the conflict by introducing formidable and elusive enemies, building momentum toward Episode 97, 'The Labyrinth of Distorted Reflection,' which deepens the arc's mystery. As a filler arc episode, it has no bearing on the manga-canon storyline but continues the self-contained narrative thread.
