This episode is also a filler in a filler, so this is skippable: the fight between Guren's team and Kakashi with team Kurenai, but there are no signs of progression to the filler.

Kakashi's shadow clone baiting Gozu felt so perfectly him, and I almost kicked myself for not anticipating such a calculated move. He just took those hits so calmly, making me genuinely wonder if he'd miscalculated, before that Chidori ripped through – it's wild how he keeps you on the edge of your seat even when you know he's got a plan.

The way Hinata's squad handled that poisonous gas jutsu totally blew me away, I honestly didn't expect them to be so quick-witted and strategic. It was super satisfying seeing them coordinate so seamlessly, making me think they're way more capable than I've given them credit for on their previous missions.

Gamatatsu's training with Naruto really threw me for a loop, especially after how intense things got with those smoke ninjas just before. I was honestly so confused, thinking, "are they really doing this right now?" It just felt like such an odd pivot, making me wonder if the show was trying to give us whiplash.

I loved seeing Shino actually get to shine, honestly; his insects cornering the enemy felt so classic Shino, like he was just calmly doing his thing while everyone else was in a mad scramble. It's a nice change of pace to see him really utilize his unique abilities so effectively in a high-stakes moment.

I wasn't expecting much from this filler, but honestly, that Team 8 fight was surprisingly solid! Seeing Kakashi actually need to go all out with his Sharingan and Chidori against that big guy really showed me how tough the enemy was, which is pretty rare for filler. Plus, Shino using his bugs to trap the guy while Kiba struggled with the gas was a really cool moment of teamwork for them.

'''When that massive stretchy guy just shrugged off a Chidori like it was nothing, I actually gasped a little. I mean, usually that move is devastating, so for a filler villain to just eat it makes me wonder if this arc is going to be way more intense than I thought, which is a nice change of pace.'''

Yukimaru's pure memories of his mom were so heartbreaking, and I can't believe how Guren is still manipulating him after everything. What's going to happen to him when he finally puts it all together? My stomach twists just thinking about the pain she's setting him up for.

When Naruto just *decided* to jump into the toad's mouth mid-fight, I was genuinely floored by how much it messed with the intensity Kakashi and the others were bringing. Part of me was just like, "come on, not now!" because it really pulled me out of the serious vibe they had going.

I was actually really impressed with Hinata using her Byakugan to track those smoke users; it felt like such a clever move on her part. And seeing Team Kurenai finally click and work together as a unit really made me think about how much they've grown, especially considering their struggles early on.

When that gas hit Kiba and Akamaru, I remember thinking, "Oh no, this is it for their tracking!" It was genuinely shocking to see them so handicapped, but then Shino just seamlessly had his bugs take over, proving exactly why his quiet abilities are so crucial to the team.

Woah, I was actually kinda shocked Kakashi needed his Sharingan and Chidori for that stretchy guy; I totally figured he'd just one-shot him like he usually does with these random filler goons. It honestly made me think he was either holding back a little or that dude was surprisingly tough, which for a character like that really got me scratching my head.

Ugh, these filler villains are just so confusing with their random abilities, I'm finding it hard to even keep up or care. And that guy with the high voice is totally overdoing it, which honestly just makes me feel like this whole arc is dragging on and we're just stalling for time.

Kiba totally blew me away with that Fang Over Fang, especially since those guys were being such cowards hiding in the smoke; I was seriously getting annoyed with them! It's so good to finally see Team Kurenai in the thick of it and doing some real damage, it feels like they've been sidelined for ages.

Naruto deserves better than this slow burn; I was genuinely expecting him to dive into some intense new training, but instead, it's just more screen time for Guren's awkward crew. Honestly, that one villain's voice is so bizarrely mismatched that it completely undercuts any tension for me, making it impossible to believe their threats. What's the point of these guys if they can't even be intimidating?

Ugh, I really didn't get why we spent so much time on those weird subordinates when Naruto was finally getting somewhere with his new jutsu. It felt like such a tease that he didn't even get to finish learning it with the frogs before the scene cut away, and now I'm just left wondering how much stronger he would've been.

Gozu actually managing to put that much pressure on Kakashi with his sheer speed really threw me off, I totally thought our guy would just breeze through that fight. But then, true to form, Kakashi busted out that wild shadow clone tactic to secure the win, reminding me he always has a few tricks tucked away.

I found myself chuckling at how goofy Guren's squad looked at first, but then Nurari started moving and my laughter totally dried up. His rubbery contortions gave me the genuine creeps; I really have no idea how any physical attack would ever connect with a body that just bends around everything.

My initial thought was that the gas mask dude's smell and sight powers would be a real problem, making me wonder how anyone would fight that. But then Hinata’s Byakugan just *poof*, sliced through it all without a second thought, and I couldn't help but feel a surge of pride seeing her so effortlessly dominate.

I totally didn't see it coming when Hinata stepped up, my jaw dropped watching her use the Byakugan to guide Kiba after he got blinded by that purple gas. It's awesome seeing her get a chance to really show off how capable she is; you just don't expect it from her sometimes, ya know?

EPISODE CONTEXT

Episode 96 sits in the middle of the anime-original Three-Tails' Appearance arc, directly following 'The Two Charms' where the joint teams finalized their mission preparations. This installment escalates the conflict by introducing formidable and elusive enemies, building momentum toward Episode 97, 'The Labyrinth of Distorted Reflection,' which deepens the arc's mystery. As a filler arc episode, it has no bearing on the manga-canon storyline but continues the self-contained narrative thread.
