Though this is a filler episode, this filler is also a filler; there is no sign of progression. Guren is only traveling with her babysitting because Kabuto told her.

Kabuto is such a creep for spying on Guren and Yukimaru like that and it proves Orochimaru does not trust her at all since she is getting attached

Episode Context

Positioned within an extended filler arc in the mid-90s stretch of Shippuden, this episode follows 'Connecting Hearts,' where Naruto's training and Tsunade's intelligence gathering on Guren took center stage. 'A Night of Rain' pivots entirely to the antagonist side, deepening Guren and Yūkimaru's bond before the next episode, 'The Two Charms,' escalates the consequences of their growing connection. It's a deliberate pause in the action that prioritizes character setup over plot momentum.
