Though this is a filler episode, this filler is also a filler; there is no sign of progression. Guren is only traveling with her babysitting because Kabuto told her.

Kabuto is such a creep for spying on Guren and Yukimaru like that and it proves Orochimaru does not trust her at all since she is getting attached

Shino and Kiba finally got to do something cool with that bat surveillance and it is nice to see the side teams getting some actual screen time for once instead of just Naruto

Guren taking care of that kid while he was sick was actually kind of sweet and seeing her act like a mom for a bit made her way more interesting

I thought Yukimaru was a girl for the entire episode until the subtitles mentioned he was a boy and now I am just getting Haku flashbacks all over again

My brain was so confused because Yukimaru looks exactly like Haku and I spent the whole time thinking it was a girl until I realized it is just another Haku situation and he is a boy

Guren giving Yukimaru that crystal flower was a nice touch and it makes her seem less like a generic villain and more like a real person caught up in Orochimaru's mess

hardly anything happened except talking for twenty minutes and the pacing is dragging so hard right now because they just sat in a cave while it rained

the rain made for a cool setting but too much time was spent listening to Guren talk about her feelings when only like five minutes of it actually mattered

Watching Kiba and Shino work together to track the enemy movements with the bat was the highlight, because it feels like they actually have a purpose in this mission, unlike the last few episodes

Seeing Guren soften up for Yukimaru was really something and that crystal camellia she gave him was so pretty but it definitely felt like a huge death flag for her character

I usually hate filler arcs but Guren is actually growing on me after seeing her nurse Yukimaru back to health during the storm, it makes the whole situation sad because you can tell Orochimaru is just using them both for his own sick games and at least this episode was way better than that weird frog song from last week

When Guren actually showed real concern for Yukimaru being sick, I was totally floored; like, who knew she had that kind of warmth in her? It just makes me scratch my head, wondering how someone with such a deeply human side can still commit so fully to a monster like Orochimaru.

Ugh, this episode felt like such a drag, I was seriously hoping for more than just rain and chitchat, you know? My patience is wearing thin, and I'm honestly just ready for the action to pick up and for us to finally get to the Three-Tails already!

Orochimaru truly excels at being a master manipulator, doesn't he? I can't stand how he picks apart Guren and Yukimaru's desires, turning their deepest hopes into tools for his own sinister agenda, and it makes me wonder how many more innocent people he's ruined like this. He always seems to find the perfect leverage to get exactly what he wants without lifting a finger.

Kiba's quick thinking with that bat noise as a dog whistle genuinely impressed me; it just goes to show how their tracking goes beyond typical ninja senses, almost like they share one mind. I mean, who else would even *think* of that in the middle of a fight?

Kabuto hanging back and just watching Guren gave me chills, honestly; I couldn't shake the feeling he was secretly cooking up some sinister strategy, because he's never just 'observing' without a massive, terrible endgame in mind. I kept waiting for him to make his move, my stomach clenching with anticipation for whatever evil he's planning next.

I thought Yukimaru was a really strange kid, and honestly, the way his sickness somehow ties into the Three Tails felt like it actually mattered, which surprised me for filler. It made me wonder if this could actually have some lasting impact on the plot, unlike a lot of the other random stuff we usually get.

Ugh, I'm just so over these filler episodes, honestly. I was just getting invested in the Akatsuki hunt, and now we're stuck watching some random kid get sick in a cabin? I bet even Naruto's totally bored, wishing he was out there fighting instead of this.

Orochimaru's constant manipulation of Guren was seriously getting on my nerves this episode; it's so obvious he's just stringing her along for Yukimaru. But then, Guren totally surprised me by how much she cared for the kid when he fell ill, which made me wonder if she could ever break away from Orochimaru's influence and actually choose a different path for herself.

EPISODE CONTEXT

Positioned within an extended filler arc in the mid-90s stretch of Shippuden, this episode follows 'Connecting Hearts,' where Naruto's training and Tsunade's intelligence gathering on Guren took center stage. 'A Night of Rain' pivots entirely to the antagonist side, deepening Guren and Yūkimaru's bond before the next episode, 'The Two Charms,' escalates the consequences of their growing connection. It's a deliberate pause in the action that prioritizes character setup over plot momentum.
