My heart actually broke seeing tiny Naruto crying into his pillow alone like that and the village was so mean to him for literally no reason

Seriously, Neji went way too hard on Hinata during that training; I was genuinely wincing for her the whole time. And don't even get me started on Hiashi, I swear he's got to be the most frustratingly distant dad in the entire village.

I know people say this is just filler and we should skip it to get to the wedding stuff but seeing Naruto so lonely in that apartment really reminds you how far he came and that talk about the universe with the third hokage was actually pretty deep and it makes sense why he wanted to be noticed by everyone after being ignored for so long

You can really see how Hinata started liking him after he gave her that scarf in the snow and told her not to cry anymore

The visual style for that new opening is gorgeous and those older character designs look great even if the episode went back to them being toddlers

The scene with the Third Hokage eating fish with Naruto in the woods was nice but why are we doing childhood flashbacks again after the war ended

It sucks seeing Naruto count his coins, but seeing the third hokage share a fish with him made it better

Naruto shouting his dreams from the top of the stone faces after meeting that old man was a great touch, even if the pacing of these new episodes is a bit slow

Seeing little Hinata try so hard to build a snowman with Neji before everything went wrong with the branch family makes their future fights feel even more tragic than they already did

This whole filler arc feels like they are just killing time before the wedding instead of showing naruto actually become the hokage which is the only thing we have been waiting for

I was so happy when Naruto caught that massive fish in the stream because seeing him actually smile after that night of crying in his dark apartment was everything he needed

The third hokage pretending to be a traveler just to talk to naruto felt a bit late, especially after seeing how the village treated the poor kid while he was starving alone

The way Naruto just gave Hinata his scarf in the snow and told her he doesn't cry anymore made me realize how much he had to toughen up on his own just to survive

It is interesting how they changed the art style for these backstory episodes and it feels a bit weird at first but seeing Hinata watch Neji cry over his father was so heavy because you can see why she feels so guilty for his pain even when she was just a little kid too and it makes their whole dynamic make sense for once

That scene where the adults literally pull their kids away from Naruto in the park like he is some kind of monster really shows how horrible his childhood actually was and it hurts

I couldn't handle seeing little Naruto count his tiny coins and then realize he couldn't even afford ramen because he was so poor and hungry and the village people were so mean to him

Hiashi being so cold to a literal child during training was hard to watch and it really explains why Hinata was always so shy and lacked any self confidence

I know people are annoyed about filler right after the war ended, but seeing Naruto give Hinata his scarf in the snow was actually the cutest thing ever. It really explains why she has cared about him for so long, and seeing them both deal with such deep loneliness as kids made me appreciate their bond way more than I did before

Neji and Hinata playing in the snow before everything went wrong was such a rare moment of peace for the Hyuga family and it made the later scenes even sadder

The watercolor art style during the final montage was really pretty, and it made the transition from their childhood to being adults feel much more meaningful

EPISODE CONTEXT

Coming directly after Episode 479's conclusion of major story arcs, Episode 480 marks the beginning of a filler block dedicated to character backstory explorations in the series' final stretch. This episode sets the template for subsequent character-paired entries like 'Sasuke and Sakura' and 'Gaara and Shikamaru,' each mining the personal histories of the cast. With only 20 episodes remaining in Shippuden's 500-episode run, this reflective detour prioritizes emotional closure over narrative advancement.
