The training trip scenes made me miss Jiraiya so much and the part where he shows Naruto how to break a genjutsu was great

I actually enjoyed the rain village setting and seeing the rebels get what they deserved, plus the genjutsu training was a nice touch for a filler episode

Naruto trying to learn how to repel genjutsu is such a nostalgic throwback to the timeskip and having him and Jiraiya act like a real family makes the filler worth it

Another filler episode right when things were getting good is kind of annoying but seeing the rain village again and Jiraiya being a great mentor helps it go down easier

Naruto and Jiraiya's trek through the Hidden Rain, dealing with those rebels, felt like such a crucial piece of their training journey that I'm kind of bummed we didn't get more moments like this back in the original series. It really makes me wonder how much more developed Naruto's skills would've been if we'd seen more of their travels together.

Those guys trying to start a rebellion in the rain had no chance against Jiraiya and Jiraiya finally teaching Naruto some genjutsu defense was a long time coming

This whole mission felt like a lost chapter from the timeskip and watching Naruto and Jiraiya in the rain village saving people was such a good reminder of why their bond is so iconic because Jiraiya actually takes the time to teach him how to break out of genjutsu while they deal with those annoying rebels who were harassing everyone

When Jiraiya took charge during that mission, really guiding Naruto through those rough patches, it was clear to me how deep their bond runs. He always knows just how to push Naruto, and I swear those moments are where the real foundation for Naruto's future self got laid. It just makes me so happy to see Jiraiya be such a consistent, loving mentor.

The hidden rain mission was okay but the wait for the main plot to continue is getting long even with the cool genjutsu training scenes

I was seriously on the edge of my seat when Naruto went full throttle against Orochimaru to protect Tsunade, it just felt so monumental seeing him actually put his life on the line like that. He’d always been talking about being Hokage, but this fight really showed me he was finally acting like someone who could actually pull it off, which was awesome to see.

Learning about Jiraiya's influence on the Gutsy Ninja book really made me rethink Naruto's whole drive. I used to just figure it was some random book, but seeing that origin story makes his passion for being Hokage feel even heavier now, like he's carrying a piece of Jiraiya's dream with him too.

I totally loved seeing the sannin reunited, even if it was just a memory. It always gets me how Naruto, even as a kid, had that fire to protect Tsunade from Orochimaru; it just foreshadows the kind of hero he becomes.

Hearing about the "gutsy ninja" again, I couldn't help but realize just how deeply Naruto internalized all of Jiraiya's lessons; it makes so much sense now seeing how he always pushes past his limits for everyone he cares about.

Honestly, that flashback to the training trip really got me, seeing how deep the bond between master and student was felt way more impactful than I expected. It just made me appreciate all the sacrifices Jiraiya made for Naruto even more, looking back at it now.

Jiraiya's tactical genius this episode just blew me away, and it makes my stomach hurt thinking how close he was to beating Pain. If he'd only had that one bit of intel, I can't help but imagine how different everything would've been for Konoha.

Ugh, seeing Jiraiya and Naruto being all family-like again just gutted me, especially knowing what happened in the Rain Village. It makes me wonder if Naruto ever truly moved past that loss or if he still just wishes for moments like these.

Watching the sannin finally clash with Orochimaru again was so cool, and I loved seeing Naruto actually prioritize protecting Tsunade; it really showed me how much he's matured since their last encounter, when he was just trying to learn Rasengan from Jiraiya.

I really miss those earlier days, you know, when it was just Naruto and Jiraiya off on missions, getting into all sorts of ridiculous trouble. It makes me kinda wistful for simpler times and their hilarious back-and-forth, wishing we could just go back to those adventures for a bit.

I was genuinely surprised to see Jiraiya bust out those hair techniques for a less serious moment, it really shows how much he's letting loose and trusting Naruto. It's awesome how he stepped back and let my boy Naruto take charge with those clones and the massive Rasengan, you can tell he's proud.

I was genuinely impressed by Naruto taking charge like that, letting Jiraiya observe from the shadows with a clone was such a smart move! It really showed how much he's matured since his Genin days, and it made me feel like he's finally ready to step up.

EPISODE CONTEXT

Episode 188 is the second part of a short filler mini-arc exploring Jiraiya and Naruto's time together, following directly from 'Gutsy Master and Student: The Training' which established their mission and the besieged village setting. This stretch of episodes sits well outside the main canon storyline, and the series transitions next into 'Sasuke's Paw Encyclopedia,' shifting to a lighter, more comedic tone. Skippable for plot purposes, but worth noting for fans invested in the Jiraiya-Naruto dynamic.
