Seeing the kid struggle this much just to break a basic genjutsu is classic Naruto and it reminds you why it takes him so long to catch up to Sasuke

If you want to see the exact moment Naruto started learning how to counter the Sharingan then this is worth a watch otherwise it is just more filler padding

It’s crazy, that frog illusion trying to trap Naruto’s chakra actually made me appreciate his grit on a whole new level. I mean, seeing him tap into years of grueling training to force his way out, it reminded me of all those desperate moments he’s faced, and it just makes me root for him even harder every time.

It made me happy to see Naruto training through the night because it shows his drive hasn't changed at all and he is still trying his hardest

I keep telling myself to skip the filler episodes, but I end up watching them anyway because seeing Naruto and Jiraiya together is always a treat, even when the stakes are low and the way Naruto keeps failing and seeing everyone as frogs was funny and it actually makes sense that he had to work this hard just to handle basic genjutsu tricks

The animation is okay for a filler but watching Naruto run around a forest full of genjutsu is not as exciting as the actual Akatsuki stuff going on

It is just another filler episode, but at least we get to see the actual training Naruto did during the time skip to prepare for the Sharingan

I think watching Naruto turn everyone into frogs in his head was the only good part of this filler and seeing Jiraiya again makes me miss him even more than before

You can really tell this is filler when the story stops for twenty minutes so Naruto can hallucinate a bunch of frogs while Jiraiya watches him fail

I wasn't expecting this training session with Jiraiya to hit me with such a wave of nostalgia, seeing him push Naruto like that really made me smile. It's wild to think how far Naruto has come from just copying shadow clones, and yet that playful dynamic between them still feels so real, even if it's just a genjutsu memory.

I thought it was super clever how Naruto was manually bursting those genjutsu bubbles with his own chakra; seriously, that's such a Naruto move, always finding an unconventional way. And honestly, I'm so relieved they're finally laying out a plan for how he's gonna handle the Sharingan because that's been a looming threat for ages.

The training flashbacks were awesome at first, totally giving me those classic Naruto vibes and making me think the real story was about to kick off. My excitement just deflated though when it spiraled into yet another filler with some random sad kid, and I'm really itching for the genuine plot to resume.

I actually kinda liked seeing Naruto lead that chaotic group for a bit, it's a nice change of pace for him to be in charge. But honestly, the sudden jump away from his training just felt so jarring and now it totally gives me filler vibes, which is a bummer when I was just getting into his development.

Jiraiya training Naruto again felt so right; it's like he just inherently knows how to nurture Naruto's growth, and watching him patiently guide Naruto through that genjutsu training just warmed my heart. That unconditional belief Jiraiya has in him is the secret ingredient for all their successes, and it makes me appreciate their unique bond even more now.

Jiraiya showing up at the beginning totally got my hopes up, you know? I was picturing him off on some epic spy mission, not just herding merchants around. It felt like such a letdown to see him immediately stuck with something so incredibly mundane, honestly, it was a real buzzkill after the excitement!

Watching Naruto fail at genjutsu training so many times and still get back up, I just kept thinking about how much resolve it takes to go through that kind of frustration, and it really underscores his unwavering commitment to bringing Sasuke home.

I gotta say, the training parts were pretty awesome to watch, but then it just turned into another one of those basic village missions, and I'm kinda bummed because Tanishi feels exactly like Inari all over again. I really hope this isn't going to be another long, drawn-out arc that just retreads old ground, because I was getting hyped!

I really dug seeing Naruto and Jiraiya in that flashback, especially with Naruto completely whiffing on genjutsu – it totally makes sense he'd struggle there and that Jiraiya would push him to understand it just to help Sasuke. Still, I was a little thrown by how fast they jumped into that escort mission, and honestly, I hope it doesn't distract too much from the main goal.

Naruto's usual goofy mistakes trying to break that genjutsu just reminded me how much he still has to learn, even with Jiraiya's patient guidance. It made me smile seeing their old training dynamic back, but I couldn't help but wonder if his focus would ever truly sharpen for these kinds of challenges, especially with so much at stake these days.

I was actually surprised how much I enjoyed this filler, watching Naruto really buckle down and practice breaking genjutsu just so he can be ready for Sasuke feels so much more meaningful than other filler arcs. It’s also just great to see that master-student bond, it makes me really feel how far he’s come and how determined he is.

EPISODE CONTEXT

Episode 187 sits within a stretch of flashback-driven filler episodes that pause the main narrative to revisit formative moments from various characters' pasts. It follows episodes exploring other backstories and directly precedes 'Record of the Ninja Gutsy Master and Student,' continuing this focused look at Naruto and Jiraiya's shared history. For viewers tracking canon progression, this block can be skipped without losing plot threads, but it enriches the emotional groundwork for later Jiraiya-related developments.
