I was genuinely so relieved when Shikamaru managed to pull Naruto out of his funk; you could just tell how much Jiraiya's death was weighing on him, and they really needed his insight for breaking that code. It makes me think about how reliable Shikamaru always is, even when he acts like everything's a drag.
