The episode is heartbreaking because it highlights the growing distance between the trio. You can feel every character being pushed towards decisions they’re not ready to make.
I guess the sequencing of the anime is good with this one because if some events are inserted in chronological order then it would be a very heavy first episode. It would make the watchers time to breathe from the tense and heavy atmosphere. This episode is where Iroha requests a prom event. She has really changed, but she’s still as cheeky a kouhai as ever. I won't spoil much on what Yuigahama is thinking, you'll just have to guess from her expression since the studio manages to convey it well.
iroha keeps things light but the room feels pressured, voices overlap while hachiman listens more than he speaks, the shuffle of papers and quiet pauses carry meaning, everything feels controlled but tense underneath, not flashy but definitely worth continuing
