Episode Context

As the opening episode, this installment has no prior events to build on, it exists entirely to establish Miya's circumstances and introduce the core family dynamic that will fuel the rest of the season. The groundwork laid here, particularly Miya's initial surprise at her stepfamily's kindness, is the emotional lens through which every subsequent relationship and comedic situation will be filtered. Everything that follows depends on how convincingly this premiere sells the warmth between these characters.
