My Stepmother and Stepsisters Aren't Wicked
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Born as the illegitimate child of a prominent family, Miya Nakamura is forced to move into her father's household when her mother dies. She's already mentally prepared for the worst: cruel stepmother, vicious stepsisters, basically a historical Japanese Cinderella situation. Except when she gets there, her stepmother Teru and stepsisters Marika and Arisa are... genuinely nice to her. Like, aggressively nice. And Miya has no idea how to handle it. That's the whole comedy engine of this TV series, and it works surprisingly well. Every time Miya braces for mistreatment or reads malice into a kind gesture, the gap between her expectations and reality lands the joke. It's set in a historical period, which gives the stepfamily drama that extra layer of formality and social hierarchy that makes the subversion even funnier. The vibe is warm and low-stakes: think wholesome family comedy where the conflict is mostly happening inside one anxious girl's head. If you liked the expectation-flipping humor of My Next Life as a Villainess, this hits a similar nerve but in a more grounded, slice-of-life way. And if Cinderella Monogatari was your thing as a kid, this is basically the version where the stepfamily forgot to be evil. Studio Newon is adapting it from a web manga, and honestly, sometimes you just need a show where nothing terrible happens and the comedy comes from people being nicer than expected.

Glad Riru is have a good intention in the end (well she little distrust in the beginning, but that change quickly). I can say looks like their not just pick Miya just because she pity, but also from her personality and care for others that has been lacking on High Status Family. I can see what vision what hoping Maya to not only Kounokura Family, but also the whole High Status Family in Care for others and searching light in pure spirited way. I really like it the show not only just usual great SoL thing there.
Watching one girl scrub puddles off a track with rags like it's a tournament arc finale is the funniest thing this show has done. Sadame showing up with actual ground maintenance gear had me cackling
I keep waiting for the Student Council to pull some wicked twist and they just keep being decent people. Sadame handing out assignments instead of being a schemer genuinely caught me off guard
That sprint between Marika and Sadame got real animation for a footrace between two schoolgirls. Marika losing her villainess act the second she started running was the best bit
I need a full episode of just Mami striking Kabuki poses in the rain with confetti. Her theatrical way of calming Miya down was so unhinged and so motherly at the same time. Nobody does aggressive support like the Konokura parents
The student council thinking the Konokuras are bribing parents because nobody complained is the funniest thing. They literally cannot process a family being genuinely liked. Classic rich people overthinking kindness
Hazuki confessing she was terrified of being a burden while covered in bandages and tears really got me. Then Miya figured out she was closing her eyes during jump rope and fixed it in one session. This show keeps finding new ways to make me cry
Sadame catching Miya then cradling her hand like she was made of glass broke me. That gap between her Iron Maiden council persona and that soft side is exactly why I love this show. The moment Hachi apologized made it even better.
Tera is basically the final boss of moms and I love how the teachers were literally shaking in their boots while she was just there to be the most supportive parent in the building and it was hilarious to watch
The delivery of Gungnir's backstory and how Miya could relate to him was unexpectedly decent. Can't wait for more episodes!
The voice actresses do everything perfectly. Really loving the stepsisters' scenes
I hate that everything is so absurd and kinda predictable but all of the comedic scenes hit hard every single time 😂 this is too good
nicee I love it
Are you looking for a comedic feel good anime?, Do you want a rollercoaster of feelings when watching an anime? Then look no further, cause this anime might be the one you are looking for. The animation and art style is quite good considering this is the first anime of studio Newon. The story itself gives a funny twist of the stepmother and sister trope you are already familiar. The first episode leaves a good impression on me and hopefully it doesn't fall flat in its face towards the final episode.
I felt so bad for Mia when she was crying in that huge library alone and then the sisters just brought their beds in to sleep with her and it was sweet seeing them pile in together
That grandmother was actually trying to sell her into labor and Teru stepping in with that purple energy to scare her off was so satisfying
Whenever Mommy comes to the screen, anyone would expect her to be so stern... then she drops those sentences, upping the sisters' already out-of-pocket ones T^T
Fun Introduction to Koyuki and her struggle from low self esteem, but thanks to Miya help friend her she can build that self esteem one by one. we see more how Marika and Riru rivalry already burning around since their childhood which ofc Marika see how sweet their realtions from them. I suprise we see how sweet and kind Riru to host a fashion show around white dress just from Miyu and Koyuki satisfied with book their read, Hopefully we can see more like this more often.
What a lovely moments when Miya want to give a present to both Marika and Arisa, and is perfect to give them Miya tasty apple pie since their always get many pyshical gift like clothes, book, etc. So is good to see both of them happy and grateful to have Miya as their little sister. And next eps gonna be the start of their school journey, Cnat wait to see that happens.
the whole school turning out to dry a field because one pudding was on the line is so dumb and I bought into every second of it
