Synopsis
With a Quirk that only lets him glide around at roughly bicycle speed, Koichi Haimawari isn't exactly packing the kind of power that gets you into a hero academy. Set five years before the events of My Hero Academia, this 13-episode TV series follows Koichi as he does small favors around his neighborhood, returning lost items, giving directions, that kind of thing. Then he crosses paths with Knuckleduster, a hulking vigilante who doesn't even have a Quirk but fights like he doesn't need one, and Pop☆Step, a street performer who can leap across rooftops. The three of them end up tangled in something bigger than neighborhood errands when a Quirk-enhancing drug called Trigger starts spreading through the city, turning ordinary people into dangerous, unstable threats. This second season from Bones Film continues digging into what heroism looks like when you strip away the licenses, the fame, and the public approval. It's grittier and more street-level than the main series. less tournament arcs, more back-alley confrontations and moral gray areas. If you liked the underdog energy of Tiger & Bunny or the way One Punch Man plays with superhero tropes, this hits a similar nerve but with a different texture. Samurai Flamenco fans will also recognize the tension between wanting to do good and operating outside a system that doesn't want your help. The soundtrack by Yuki Hayashi and company keeps the intensity where it needs to be. Worth your time if you want MHA's world from a completely different angle.

Is this actually an ending to this anime? Anyway, it was a little underwhelming but I kinda get it since this was technically a prequel to MHA. I just want a much satisfying conclusion for Koichi, tho. 😶

The emotional opening is impactful. Pacing and action are the best so far in Vigilantes S2 and I can finally see what the series is trying to convey—"big" heroes matter, but so do the “small” ones, even though their power hasn’t been seen publicly.
Pacing and tension were fine until the fighting scenes kept getting interrupted by emotional flashbacks every time. But the plot twist was on point and literally saved the episode. It’s still an episode you shouldn’t skip in terms of the overall story.
Hmm… what should I say? The fight scenes and tense moments all stop at weird timings, lacking impact and intensity. If they’re trying to balance humor and serious parts, I’d say it’s now falling between two stools….
