There's a lot going on in this episode. Finally showing the backstory of Sumi and Miyo, on how Miyo ended up as who she is now. The intense battlegrounds of Kiyoka's squad and also the sudden shift of decisions from Arata and Miyo's grandfather. This was a chaotic episode.

What an emotional backstory. Sumi is such a loving mom for protecting Miyo. A mother's love really has no bounds, and Sumi is one of those examples. The ending really builds the hype for the last episode.

Worth watching, this episode leans more into the emotional side, with Miyo reflecting on her feelings while facing new pressure around her. The tone feels heavier, and it ends on a tense note that keeps you invested.

Episode Context

Positioned as the penultimate episode of a twelve-episode season, 'My Mother's Legacy' follows the emotional fallout of 'Summer Cherry Blossoms, and the Mistake' by turning inward, providing critical backstory that recontextualizes Miyo's struggles and resilience throughout the entire season. This is the narrative's final breath before the finale, 'Light in the Darkness,' and it clearly functions as the emotional foundation that episode will build its resolution upon. Without this piece of Miyo's heritage clicking into place, the season's endgame lacks its full emotional punch.
