This final episode teaches us that we shouldn’t try to disturb nature’s natural cycle, as it only breeds dangerous stagnation. There is no harm in letting things happen in a regular flow of time even when those times are difficult.

It's one of the best episodes; it has an interesting story and unexpected twists. What stands out is how the main character deals with different situations.

Episode Context

As the tenth and final episode of Mushishi Zoku Shou's first cour, 'Depths of Winter' follows 'Valley of the Welling Tides' and trades that episode's focus on family dynamics for a more solitary, introspective tone centered on Ginko alone. True to the series' episodic structure, it functions as a self-contained story rather than a narrative climax, serving as a reflective send-off before the second half of Next Passage continues. Its themes of seasonal transition and lingering stillness feel deliberately chosen to close out this set of episodes on a contemplative note.
