Giving it that kind of ending was the best thing for the story, it was very moving to see how the characters overcame their traumas and were able to return to their daily lives.

the ending Monster deserves not explosive, but human. Johan in the hospital bed. Tenma the surgeon. full circle. the empty bed at the end will haunt me forever. no easy answers. was there ever a monster, or only men? 10/10 series. 💕💕💕

I got goosebumps from the final scene where the twins and their mother had their final moment together. I thought the hospital scene between Tenma and Johan was also chilling! I loved Johan's question at the end. Definitely an overall 10 out of 10.

It closes the story on a quiet, reflective note. There’s no big action, just quiet moments that make you think. The mood stays tense even in silence. It’s a calm but thoughtful ending that leaves room to reflect on the journey. Wish it had more episodes though.

Let me be real, I will never get over the fact that the end is supposed to take place in a prison hospital, yet Johann just goes out the window... seriously Urasawa, this is the last chapter, you could've come up with something better...

It is crazy that Johan doesn't care whether he lives or dies, but yet he has caused so much harm to others, just to fill his time.
It was a beautiful episode, and a perfect end to the series. I can't lie, this is my best series by far, it really spoke to me.

Its a super episode. It very accurate from the psychological point of view and it shows great depth of human nature. As of the story, its the best according to me, there is nothing like it. The last episode especially should be considered the greatest of the whole anime series.

This is the type of animation that will make you binge-watch for god knows how long for the ending to be... unexpected. Still, I consider it one of my favorites because of how intense the plot is. Johan's character will remain special in my heart!

EPISODE CONTEXT

Episode 74 follows directly after the climactic confrontation in Ruhenheim, shifting from that arc's visceral intensity into a reflective epilogue that serves as the series' definitive conclusion. The entire 74-episode journey—from Tenma's fateful decision in the operating room to the sprawling investigation across Europe—converges here, providing emotional resolution for the show's principal characters. As the final episode, it carries the responsibility of closing every thematic thread Monster has woven, prioritizing character closure and moral contemplation over plot mechanics.
