Finally, this episode returns to the storyline. At first, I didn't understand why Sayla insisted on piloting Gundam, but it turns out there was a hidden meaning behind it. This episode is not to be missed because there is a plot twist that will affect the story going forward.

Episode Context

Sitting at episode 16 of 43, this lands firmly in the series' middle stretch where Gundam deepens its character work beyond the initial wartime setup. It follows the standalone 'Cucuruz Doan's Island' detour and pivots inward, shifting attention to the personal fractures forming within the White Base crew. Critically, this episode lays essential groundwork for the upcoming 'Amuro Deserts' arc, signaling that the show's focus on individual breaking points is about to intensify.
