I'm not sure, but this episode's story feels like filler. It's pretty average, doesn't really affect the main story, and you can skip it. However, it's interesting to see how Doan and his Zaku can work together with Gundam to repel the pursuing Zeon forces.

Episode Context

Sitting roughly at the one-third mark of the series, this episode continues a stretch of psychologically focused storytelling that began with 'Time, Be Still,' which examined the mental toll of combat. 'Cucuruz Doan's Island' deepens that exploration by externalizing internal conflict through Amuro's encounter with a deserter, setting the emotional groundwork for 'Sayla's Agony,' where personal fractures within the White Base crew become impossible to ignore. It's a pivotal quiet episode that reinforces the series' core argument: war damages everyone, on every side.
