Mobile Suit Gundam: GQuuuuuuX

While early episodes deliver strong action and character development, the anime's consistently rushed pacing ultimately sacrifices narrative depth, making it a skip.

📖 SYNOPSIS

Living a quiet life in a space colony, high school student Amate Yuzuriha carries only faint memories of a devastating war that ended six years ago. That changes when she meets Nyaan, a war refugee with a sharp edge and a connection to an underground scene Amate didn't know existed: Clan Battle, an illegal mobile suit dueling sport where pilots throw down in stolen and salvaged mechs for reputation and survival. Amate ends up behind the controls of a prototype Gundam — the GQuuuuuuX — fighting under the alias 'Machu,' and things escalate fast when a mysterious pilot named Shuji shows up in an unidentified Gundam with both the military and police on his tail.

This is a Gundam show, but the vibe is different. It's less war drama and more post-war fallout filtered through teenage restlessness and underground fight culture. Think the school-life-meets-mecha energy of Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury crossed with the emotional weight of Neon Genesis Evangelion, but with its own identity. The collaboration between Sunrise and Khara (yes, the Evangelion studio) gives it a visual texture that feels genuinely fresh for the franchise. Kenshi Yonezu on the soundtrack doesn't hurt either.

At 12 episodes, it's tight. If you liked Code Geass for its moral gray areas and shifting loyalties, this scratches a similar itch — just in a smaller, more personal package. It doesn't waste your time.
