Meitantei Precure! Movie
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Built from the ground up to make detectives out of anyone with a pulse, Enigma City is basically where mystery-obsessed middle schooler Kokoro is just living her best life. Her life gets weird when she meets Loup, a fairy detective on the run from a shadowy group called the Phantom Syndicate, who are literally trying to steal the concept of logic from reality. When a monster attacks the city museum, Kokoro's knack for deduction lets her transform into Cure Sleuth, and her classmate Alice becomes Cure Noir. Here's what makes this one stand out from the usual Precure formula: the girls can't just punch their way through problems. Their power system runs on actual detective work — gathering clues, solving logic puzzles mid-fight — and their finishing moves only unlock when they crack the case. It's a clever twist that gives the action real stakes beyond willpower alone. The visual design leans into Victorian detective and noir aesthetics mixed with classic magical girl frills, and the jazz-infused soundtrack ties it all together in a way that feels surprisingly cohesive. If you liked the playful detective energy of Tantei Opera Milky Holmes or the magical thief cat-and-mouse dynamic from Kaitou Saint Tail, this hits a similar sweet spot but with Toei's full theatrical production polish. There's also a Cardcaptor Sakura warmth to the character dynamics that keeps things grounded. It's a single movie, so low commitment — worth the watch if you're into mysteries that happen to involve transformation sequences.
