the writing remains exceptionally strong. conceptualizing shogi as a desperate ticket for human interaction reframes his childhood isolation brilliantly. merging the afterburner and shogi clubs provides a highly logical narrative solution for his socialization.

i just want to jump through the screen and give young rei the biggest hug, no child deserves to feel that alone. his metaphor about shogi being a ticket to tomorrow was so incredibly beautiful but heartbreaking.

Rei has the best teacher! He's been very mindful of Rei ever since, guiding him like he's his actual guardian and supporting him with his Shogi career. The sweetest way to end a season!

The last episode of March comes like a lion brings a new school term for Kiriyama with challenges to push him out of his comfort zone. But while this is the last episode, it is not the end. Another new story will begin, for Kiriyama, the Kawamoto sisters and everyone else.

Wow, the ending of this episode was quite happy. I have a feeling there will be more happiness for Rei in the next season. I can't wait to see the continuation of the story.

We get a scene of Rei’s childhood, where no one was willing to reach out. In the present, Rei enters the new school year and alongside his former sensei Hayashida, attempts to form a shogi club. Despite where he started, his future is looking more lively.

Last episode lets out some of your emotions. It is still serious but there are times when it seems like there could be hope. The balance is well done.

It saddens me that Rei is this lonely, but I’m glad he’s at least found his place. Hayashida’s suggestion also livens up Rei’s mood, even though only a few people took interest. That said, amazing episode! perfect wrap-up to the intense and competitive moments. RECOMMENDED!
