Mairimashita! Iruma-kun: If Episode of Mafia

Living on scraps and good vibes alone in a brutal city slum, Iruma is a dirt-poor kid with nothing to his name. One day he gives his last loaf of bread to some injured old man he finds on the street — because of course he does, that's just who Iruma is. Turns out the old guy is Don Sullivan, head of the Babyl Mafia. Before Iruma knows what's happening, the don shows back up, essentially adopts him as his grandson, and drops him right into the middle of an organized crime empire. Now Iruma has to figure out how to be a mafia heir when his whole personality is "too nice for this world." If you've seen the original Iruma-kun, this is the alternate universe spinoff where the demon world gets swapped for a gritty crime setting, and it works surprisingly well. The tone walks this line between genuine tension and comedy — Iruma's earnest kindness constantly clashing with the ruthless people around him creates situations that are both funny and weirdly touching. Think Katekyou Hitman Reborn's "reluctant kid becomes a mafia boss" premise, but with the warmth and character dynamics closer to the original Iruma series. There are also shades of Baccano in how the ensemble cast of criminals each bring their own chaotic energy. The fantasy elements woven into the mafia setting keep things from feeling too grounded, giving it a flavor that's hard to find elsewhere. Worth picking up if you want something that balances heart with underworld drama.
