glenn_radars★★☆☆☆EP 1The animation for a mid nineties oav actually looks pretty decent during the spell casting scenes and it definitely captures that weird energy from that era
All Tsukasa Tachibana wants is to pass his college entrance exams, for the third time, but three witches have decided he's going to be their practical exam. Chipple, a white witch in training, has to make him fall in love with her. Her rival Irene takes a more forward approach. And Liv, a black witch from a competing school, has the simplest assignment of all: make sure neither of them succeeds by getting rid of Tsukasa entirely. The poor guy has no idea any of this is happening. This 3-episode OVA from 1994, produced by AIC, plays the whole thing as a comedic fantasy romp. The witches are competitive, the situations get increasingly ridiculous, and Tsukasa just keeps trying to study while his life falls apart around him. One thing worth noting is the character designs, they lean more grounded and approachable than the typical late-night aesthetic of the era, which gives the whole thing a slightly different feel than you might expect. If you've seen Buttobi CPU or F3 and liked that early-90s OVA energy: short, a little chaotic, not taking itself seriously: this fits right into that space. Fans of Magic User's Club will also recognize the formula of magic causing more problems than it solves. It's a product of its time, leaning into adult comedy territory, so go in knowing what you're signing up for. Straightforward, unpretentious, and exactly as long as it needs to be.
Chosen for a magical test, Tsukasa's fate rests on three witches completing their task to avoid expulsion.

subaru_sufferer★★★★☆EP 1Liv just casually trying to end his life for a school project works because she seems so chill about it
baniacz★★★☆☆EP 1Chipple trying to be all sweet and romantic while the other two act like complete agents of chaos in his life caught my eye
geordo_stuart★★★☆☆EP 1Tsukasa is already having a bad time with these exams and then Irene shows up and basically tries to jump his bones while he is just trying to study
jiro_jolt_127★★★★☆EP 1I really did not expect the girl in the red hat to just show up and start trying to kill him and it makes the exam stress feel way more intense
judeau_the_knife_191★★★☆☆EP 1That first encounter in the bedroom was wild and the witches are basically treating him like a tool for their test so it will be interesting to see what happens to poor Tsukasa
sailor_tin_nyanko_392★★★☆☆EP 1The art is surprisingly detailed for an old show, and the way the witches play with Tsukasa makes him look like a total amateur. It is kind of a weird start for an exam comedy.
suzaku_kururugi_172★★★★☆EP 1It is pretty funny how he is more worried about his final exams than the actual magic happening right in front of him and those creatures birthed by imagination look cool
reshiram_310★★★★☆EP 1I actually felt kind of bad for Tsukasa when he was trying to study and those witches kept messing with him because the poor guy just wants to pass his exams
yuki_onna_yuki_76★★★★☆EP 1The way the witches use magic reminds me of those old school fantasy games and it is crazy how much more detail they put into the character designs back then
shinobu_sting_130★★★★☆EP 1I went into this expecting some generic comedy about a guy failing his tests, but the supernatural stuff with the three witches caught me off guard. The animation has that specific chunky 90s feel that I really miss and the voice acting for Tsukasa is hilariously pathetic. It is basically a total disaster but makes for an entertaining watch.
cwunched★★★★☆EP 1The opening music had such a cool funky vibe and the art style has that classic old school grit that you just do not see anymore in modern shows
oliver_operatic_502★★★★☆EP 1I really liked that retro look from the mid nineties and those three witches are way more intense than I expected for a first episode and Tsukasa is such a loser for failing his exams three times
yumichika_peacock_469★★★☆☆EP 1That ending with the three of them using him as a test subject was super weird and it feels kind of wrong that they are just messing with his agency like that
misha_necron★★★☆☆EP 1You can definitely tell this is from a different era because the character designs for the witches have that specific throwback aesthetic and Tsukasa is just a typical annoying student
mihaelsss★★★★☆EP 1Everything about this show feels like a fever dream and the character designs for the three witches have that great vintage aesthetic
rana_rhapsody_503★★★☆☆EP 1This first episode moves from a normal school setting into total supernatural chaos so fast and seeing Tsukasa fail his exams for the third time because of these witches was actually kind of sad but also hilarious and my only complaint is that the witches are too mean to him sometimes, but I definitely enjoyed the old school art style
lulu★★★☆☆EP 1Witches appearing in the middle of a third attempt at final exams is a lot to handle and the plot feels pretty chaotic
sapphire_321★★★★☆EP 1Tsukasa just wants to pass his exams but these three witches show up and ruin his entire focus with their constant meddling
piko_pixel★★★★☆EP 1Messy 90s animation is my weakness and things went south for Tsukasa so fast because those witches really messed up his life
