The fourth layer reveal with the giant goblet trees? stunning 😍 the animation team really outdid themselves. Reg's desperation was palpable. the way this show builds tension is masterful. that silhouette at the end?? mysterious. can't wait to see who that is.

This is where things truly hit the fan. The tension feels tight as Reg and Riko finally meet the reality of the Abyss, encountering a monster beyond their comprehension and facing the effects of the ascent. It was really, really hard to watch - in a way that breaks your hearts for these two.

Backstory hits HARD—this one is painful but important. World gets darker. Slight pacing dips but emotionally strong. Keep watching. 💔

This episode will test you. The Abyss stops feeling like an adventure and starts feeling like a nightmare fast. Kevin Penkin's score hits different here. Something shifts in this show's tone permanently and you'll feel it in your chest. Buckle up.

Pretty thrilling episode. It goes to show just how dangerous that layer is already. It's impressive that they weren't hesitant away from showing blood and disturbing scenes. It’s great that we finally got to see Nanachi!

This episode is visceral, suffocating, and genuinely hard to watch. Seeing Riko’s desperation and Reg’s panic makes it more of a survival horror than an anime. It’s the moment the Abyss truly shows its teeth. Really brutal, period.

Although at first it seemed like a really fun adventure and fantasy anime, in this particular episode everything shifted to a dark tone. Audiences are really exposed to the dangerous world of the abyss along with the characters but it also drags them to follow Riko on her journey

EPISODE CONTEXT

Sitting at episode 10 of 13, this marks the definitive tonal turning point of the season—everything after the Great Fault descent has been escalating, and this is where the Abyss fully reveals its cruelty. The harrowing events here directly set up episode 11's focus on Nanachi and the new group dynamic that will carry through the final stretch. This is the pivot from adventure into something far more emotionally demanding, recontextualizing the journey Riko and Reg committed to in the early episodes.
