And yes, this was a most welcome payoff to that steadily intensifying buildup in the last few episodes. Even more impressively, they manage to sneak in some surprising reveal that has huge implications as the story goes. This is a must watch for long time viewers of this anime.

This episode contains both combat and plot heavy content, where hints of Ranka's origin became clear with the additional revelation of a mysterious character from the earlier episode identity as a survivor of Macross Galaxy. 9/10.
