Seiji's World War II line is the funniest moment of the episode. After everything he's been through, he's earned the right to be dramatic. The slumber party is a fun excuse to get all the characters in one place, and the chaos that ensues is exactly what you'd expect from this show.
Props to the show for keeping everyone strictly in character but man, this episode proves a major point. When you take the comedy out of a gag anime it drains all the magic. It just loses that special charm.
