I realized too late that this anime is a spin-off of a franchise, or something like that. There are several concepts I don't quite grasp, but a series should be able to stand on its own, so I'll evaluate it independently. The art is beautiful; you can see the great care put into the backgrounds and environments. I certainly don't appreciate Reines blushing so much during the conversation when Waver is so determined—it's a bit cringeworthy, especially since taking responsibility for a mistake isn't such a grand gesture. It's interesting to see the character's evolution at the ages shown in the episode. It keeps you interested in watching, even without understanding what the characters are saying. The music is also excellent; that fusion of Eastern music with modern beats is fantastic.

The animation is excellent, with a notably elegant and dark atmosphere. The visual style perfectly suits the series' themes mystery, ancient traditions, and secrets hidden within the magical world. While it isn't packed with action sequences, it masterfully conveys the mood and emotion of every scene.
