Kanata's Silent Torment
The episode begins in a stark blackness, music a faint, ominous whisper. A close-up on Futaki Kanata's hands, clutching a dirtied uniform, sets an immediate tone of distress. As the camera pulls back, her eyes are revealed; wide, hollow, and black, leaking tears into the fabric. "Don't come any closer! Don't come near me!" her voice insists, a raw plea against an unseen tormentor, even as credits roll, indifferent to her anguish.
Rumors and Haruka's Unease
At school, Naoe Riki tries to speak with Kanata, but she slips away, a dejected figure in the hallway. Haruka, who arrives moments later, senses a deeper distress. "Perhaps she's avoiding me, trying not to worry me," Haruka observes with a thoughtful sadness. Their conversation is interrupted by schoolgirls gossiping about Kanata's burn marks, hinting at something far more sinister: "Is that perhaps child abuse?" The weight of these rumors settles heavily on both Riki and Haruka, who begin to understand the depth of Kanata's struggle.
The Engagement is Revealed
Kanata walks with a stern, determined expression, seemingly resolved to face her fate. Her resolve is tested when A-chan informs her about an impending face-to-face meeting, and the displeasure of her uncles. "At such a crucial time before your engagement," A-chan states coldly, revealing the true nature of the meeting. Haruka, overhearing this, is aghast, demanding, "I wasn't told! What does this mean?" The betrayal is palpable in Haruka's voice as A-chan dismisses her, confirming the arranged marriage to secure an heir.
Haruka's Anguish, Kanata's Choice
As A-chan explains the marriage is "for your own sake," Haruka's anguish boils over. "Why!? If I get married, I can't leave that house! I'll be trapped forever!" she cries, her voice cracking with pain. The scene then shifts to Kanata practicing Kendo in the rain, her frustration visible. "How does it feel to swing a shinai you don't want to wield?" Masato challenges, drawing out Kanata's admission of pain. Her desperate strikes with the shinai, followed by Masato's observation that "Such a sword cannot defeat anything," foreshadow her ultimate choice.
A Life of Sacrifice
A barrage of flashbacks reveals Kanata's childhood. We see her crying in the rain, an older man congratulating her as "the chosen one," the comparisons to her sister finally over. "The comparisons are over," he states chillingly. Young Kanata, resigned, asks what will happen to Haruka. The uncles' cold indifference, and their proposition for Kanata to sacrifice her future for Haruka's freedom, solidifies the tragic pact. "Abandon your own future now. If you do, I will release your sister immediately," the uncle offers, leaving Kanata with an impossible choice. Her desperate acceptance, for her "precious Haruka," reveals the depth of her sacrifice.
Riki's Unconditional Comfort
Kanata collapses from fever and exhaustion, landing her in the hospital. She pushes away Riki's concern, raging that she never had a defender, no one ever came to help her. "No hero of justice ever appeared," she cries, her hands clenching the blanket. Riki, however, meets her anger with quiet understanding. "I don't need a reason" to worry, he states simply. He tells her it's okay to scream for help, gently embracing her as she finally breaks down. Haruka watches, then tells her sister, "Kanata, there, there, you did well."
A Sister's Promise
Haruka reassures Kanata that she doesn't have to marry or inherit anything, promising to chase away anyone who complains. "You don't have to get married. You don't have to inherit anything," she insists. Kanata looks up, asking, "Us?" Haruka confirms that Kanata is no longer alone, listing the names of the Little Busters, who have gathered outside, supporting her. Haruka then takes Kanata's hand, telling her that her sacrifice would be meaningless if she became unhappy. Kanata, tears streaming, admits, "I don't want to go home. I really don't want to go home."
The Kidnapping and the Rallying Call
Just as Riki and Haruka walk away from the hospital, relieved, Kanata suddenly collapses. A black car arrives, and A-chan emerges, coldly ordering Kanata inside. Riki and Haruka try to intervene, but A-chan blocks them, declaring that Kanata is going home and "won't be returning here anymore." Haruka, realizing her brother is being married off, screams, "No! We have to help her!" She defiantly declares she will rescue Kanata, and Kyousuke, with a mischievous smile, agrees to help: "Let's crash that meeting ourselves!" The other Little Busters burst in, ready for the mission.
Freedom Through Chaos
The rescue mission is underway. In an elevator, Kanata, clad in a white dress, ascends with her uncles, a look of resignation on her face. Her uncle orders her to remove a hair ornament, a symbol of control. But as the banquet hall doors open, alarms blare and smoke fills the room. The Little Busters storm in, creating a joyful pandemonium. "No! Bring Kanata back!" her uncle shouts, but Riki takes Kanata's hand, and they escape with Haruka. Running across a pedestrian bridge, Haruka offers her sister a new life: "In Dad and Mom's house. Hey, won't you live with me?" Kanata's tears of fear turn to those of longing, as she chooses her own path.
