Episode Context

Just four episodes into a 110-episode saga, this episode arrives immediately after the series establishes its large-scale military conflict, using that momentum as a springboard to explore who these characters are beneath their uniforms and titles. It functions as essential foundation work, without understanding the personal histories and motivations illuminated here, the political and ideological stakes of the broader war lose much of their weight. What this episode plants in terms of character psychology will pay dividends across the dozens of episodes to follow.
