A very heartwarming and funny start. I already love our main characters, Kudou and Takezo. The resilience both characters show through their shared love for the koto made me instantly invested in the story.

I love the character dynamic this opening episode features, as it strikes a dramatic tone with a slight comedic undertone. Though set in a typical delinquent school setting, it takes a different approach with profound depth, balancing humor with a dense narrative.

For a first episode, it’s a mix of funny and a bit sad. Even though they just met, I like their dynamic. Chika gets mad easily, which actually adds to the comedy. Then it shifts into a more emotional tone when it touches on Chika and her grandfather. Curious to see what’s next!

Episode Context

As the series premiere of a 13-episode season, this episode exists entirely to lay groundwork, introducing the Koto Club's precarious state and the unlikely pairing of Takezo and Chika that will drive everything forward. No prior context needed; this is ground zero. Subsequent episodes will pivot toward recruitment and the escalating challenges of keeping the club alive, making this character establishment essential for the emotional payoffs to come.
