A thoughtfully paced entry. The focus now is on a country and how its long standing tradition shapes everyday life. Delving into more of Kino's past, the episode gradually reveals its ideas through conversation and observations.
Really cool one since it doubles as an origin story of sorts. The conversation about what "adulthood" even means hits different once you piece together what's really going on. A bit light on explanation, but the emotional gut-punch still works.
It's always quite confusing at first, but after watching for a while, things become clearer. I think that's what got me hooked on this anime. Even this episode is confusing as heck, and you don't know why everything is happening at first. Anyway, another interesting episode. We also learn more about Kino's past here.
