EPISODE REVIEWS

Episode Context

A brash, fast-moving culinary showdown pits Jan Akiyama and Kiriko Gobanchou against a notorious food critic, Nichido Ohtani. The tone is broadly comic yet deliberately excessive, with villainous laughter, theatrical tasting reactions, and cooking treated as psychological combat between chef and judge. Jan and Kiriko remain rivals, but the episode shows how their opposing temperaments align when an outside threat targets Gobancho. The self-contained restaurant challenge revolves around surprising ingredients, sharp verbal sparring, and heightened food presentation imagery that gives every dish a theatrical charge. A brief glimpse of Jan's earlier training adds a darker edge beneath the gleefully over-the-top surface, suggesting that his brash confidence was forged through harder experiences.
