Episode 1 kicks off the zombie apocalypse perfectly! The sudden outbreak at school, Takashi’s tough decisions, and the intense escape scenes are thrilling. Great mix of horror, action, and fan service. Solid start!

A wild, unapologetic opener. HOTD wastes no time — zombies overrun the school within minutes and the chaos is immediate. Takashi and Rei's dynamic is set up fast. It's gory, dramatic, and addictive. Don't forget the fan service.

The premiere drops us right into the chaos. Takashi spots the outbreak at the gate and immediately rushes to save his childhood friend Rei and her boyfriend Hisashi. The tension of their awkward love triangle clashing with a visceral zombie apocalypse makes for a gripping watch

Damn! I'm glued to the screen from the very beginning, and the fan service is definitely one of the reason too ig. I really like Takashi because of how he analyse the situation so quickly not like any other protagonist and his crush on Rei gives him more reason to be focused

It's gonna have a lot of fan service, it is something you can tell from momento zero, it's something I don't like. In terms of story and animation I think its gonna awesome

Banger opening and ending songs. This art style is a personal favorite of mine. The eyes are expressive and dynamic, making it easy to understand how the characters are feeling making them memorable. Since this is from Studio Madhouse, you already know animation is good.

Episode 1 of Highschool of the Dead begins with Komuro dealing with a normal high school heartbreak before events rapidly escalate into chaos. The sudden outbreak unfolds through confusion, panic, and collapse, showing how life can turn 180° in an instant during a zombie pandemic

Okay, I'm pushing the elephant aside for this.

Some contextually relevant Hasashi flashbacks through the series would've been great. Story essentials for a first episode is wrapped in a nice bow with slight damaging from hasty methods, but just about tolerable.

EPISODE CONTEXT

As the first episode of a tight 12-episode run, 'Spring of the DEAD' is pure setup — introducing the core cast, the outbreak, and the survival dynamics that will drive everything forward. It establishes the character relationships and tonal identity that the entire season builds upon. The next episode, 'Escape from the DEAD,' shifts focus to navigating the escalating crisis, picking up directly from the breakneck momentum established here.
