READTHROUGH
The Misunderstood Love Letter
The episode begins with Yuukime finding a letter Nube dropped, igniting mischievous speculation in the classroom. She dramatically reads snippets, convinced it's a love letter from a secret admirer, much to Nube's visible embarrassment. His students, including Hiroshi, Katsuya, and Miki, revel in teasing their flustered teacher. Nube eventually clarifies the letter is from a former student, attempting to douse their romantic theories, but their skepticism remains a comical thread.
A Fateful Reunion at the Seaside Park
Nube's current students, driven by curiosity, secretly follow him as he carries a bouquet of flowers. They watch him arrive at Enokuno Seaside Park, where he shares a warm, emotional embrace with Megumi. Their joyful reunion is momentarily disrupted when the trailing students clumsily reveal themselves. Megumi, with a kind and playful spirit, invites them to join her by the water, swiftly winning them over.
A Teacher's Duty and a Hidden Illness
A flashback transports us to Nube's formative years as a student teacher, where he confidently introduces himself as an exorcist. The scene then shifts to a staff room, where a colleague mentions Megumi's prolonged absence due to an 'incurable illness.' Nube, without hesitation, insists on visiting her. He firmly states that a teacher’s responsibility extends beyond the classroom walls, a duty he takes with serious conviction.
The First Encounter with the Shikigami
Upon visiting Megumi's home, Nube is met with polite deflection from her mother, who states Megumi is unwell. A sudden, piercing scream from inside draws him back, revealing Megumi convulsing in pain as a glowing, leech-like Shikigami emerges from her chest. Nube recognizes the malevolent spirit and attempts an exorcism with his prayer beads and sutra book. Despite his efforts, the Shikigami resists, changing form and proving too powerful to fully banish, leaving Nube frustrated and Megumi still tormented.
The Promise of the Sea, The River's Charm
Following his failed exorcism, Nube attempts to comfort a suffering Megumi, promising to take her to the sea once she recovers. Megumi's face brightens, confessing her deep love for the sea. She then reveals a small book about river fish, explaining her particular fondness for the tiny fish that swim from the river into the nearby seaside park. Nube listens intently, understanding the specific, innocent nuance of her wish.
A Second Failure, A Lingering Regret
The Shikigami attacks Megumi once more, prompting another desperate plea from Nube. He chants his prayers with renewed urgency, but the evil spirit continues its relentless torment. Megumi cries out in agonizing pain as Nube watches, helpless. He looks at her, now unconscious and bruised, expressing profound regret and guilt, his 'childish dream of solving children’s problems' clashing with the harsh reality of his limitations.
Megumi's Legacy and Nube's Enduring Resolve
In her final, weak moments, Megumi opens her eyes and offers Nube words of profound gratitude, assuring him he will be a great teacher who brings happiness to others. Nube weeps openly, embracing her as she asks him to make a promise. Years later, we see Nube in his classroom, erasing the blackboard, his expression serious and determined. This quiet moment, as he takes out his prayer beads, signifies Megumi's lasting impact on his path as a teacher.
A Promise Fulfilled in Memory
The scene gently transitions to Megumi's gravestone, adorned with delicate pink flowers, bathed in the warm, golden glow of the sun. It is a tranquil symbol of remembrance. Finally, Nube is shown walking away from the seaside park with his current students, looking back at the vast ocean. His bittersweet smile suggests the promise made to Megumi to bring her to the sea is now fulfilled, not literally, but through his continued, devoted service to his students and her enduring memory.
Concluding Thoughts and Future Promises
The episode gracefully transitions into its closing credits, displaying character names and heartfelt lyrics over evocative scenes of a twilight city and a serene, empty classroom. The music carries a tone of both nostalgia and hopeful continuation, showing Nube at a blackboard and various other characters smiling confidently. The screen then offers a brief, rapid montage of exciting clips, teasing the next episode, 'The Legendary Yuki-Onna,' hinting at new supernatural encounters to come.
EPISODE REVIEWS

Damn, I really didn’t expect Megumi… what an unexpected plot twist

Sad moments and great paranormal activities introduced in the form of a curse! Though I found it hard to engage with the student Nube meets in this episode, as her appearance was really brief despite having an entire episode.

The Yokai introduced in this episode was a little unrelated in name to Japanese Mythology, but it left a lasting impression on me when I put myself in Megumi's shoes! Imagining that coming out of your body was pretty horrific.
