Haruka: Beyond the Stream of Time – A Tale of the Eight Guardians
Oshimeter
Synopsis
An ordinary high school girl named Akane Motomiya has her life upended when a demon drags her and her two friends into a world that looks like ancient Japan — one she discovers is very real, and apparently she's the only person who can keep it from falling apart. The locals call her the Priestess of the Dragon God, which sounds impressive until you realize that means demons want to capture her and an entire political landscape is now her problem to navigate. Eight men — the Hachiyou — are sworn to protect her, each with their own abilities and personality, and yes, the romantic tension is very much part of the package. This is a reverse harem setup, and it leans into that honestly. The pacing is slow and atmospheric rather than action-heavy, with a rich soundtrack that makes the ancient Japanese setting feel genuinely immersive. If you liked Fushigi Yugi and want something with a similar "girl dropped into a historical fantasy world with devoted guardians" energy, this scratches that itch. It's also in the same neighborhood as Hiiro no Kakera — grounded, romantic, and more interested in character dynamics than constant battles. The 26-episode run gives the relationships room to breathe, which is either a selling point or a warning depending on how patient you are with slow-burn storytelling. Based on a visual novel, so expect emotional investment over plot twists.
