More of the plot and Chizuru's father's research, as well as the stakeholders around it get revealed in this episode as various factions form around her: either to kidnap her or to protect her, and it made the situation more thrilling to watch.

Chikage and his allies are preparing a new surprise attack to capture Chizuru, who hasn't been entirely honest with her companions, while the true purpose of the medicine created by Kodo is finally revealed. It is a chapter filled with intrigue and secrets involving the highest levels of government. I love the story's pacing and the unexpected revelations that come to light as the plot unfolds.

The setup is getting intense. Fingers crossed the studio delivers a massive and high budget fight sequence next week to match all this buildup.

Episode Context

Hakuouki pulls back from the battlefield and turns its lens inward at the halfway mark. Episode 7 is a quieter, character-driven installment that trades swordplay for vulnerability, centering on medical examinations within the Shinsengumi that expose both physical frailties and emotional fault lines. Chizuru, Okita, and Dr. Matsumoto take the spotlight as the episode probes questions of loyalty, duty, and the toll this life exacts on the body and spirit. Moments of genuine camaraderie and levity punctuate the proceedings, but an undercurrent of dread never fully dissipates, the supernatural elements lurking beneath the surface ensure tension persists even in the calm. The pacing is deliberately measured, prioritizing relationship building and personal stakes over spectacle. Expect a reflective breather episode that deepens your investment in these characters before the storm ahead.
