Great conclusion to all that happened in this anime, and it is nice to see will get more not only in the second season, but also the movies for Hakuoki, as well as just checking out the original VN series.

I would say a perfect balance anime. Blending intense action with solid character drama gave the story a super well rounded finish. Fantastic wrap up episode.

Episode Context

The season finale of Hakuouki delivers on the weight that eleven episodes have been building toward. As the Boshin War reaches a critical flashpoint, expect an episode that runs hot on both action and emotional stakes. The Shinsengumi are pushed to their limits, and the tension between duty and survival defines nearly every scene. Hijikata and Chizuru anchor the drama, their personal struggles reflecting the larger fractures tearing through the group. The supernatural elements that have simmered throughout the season surface with real consequence here. Studio Deen leans into the show's darker tonal register, this is not a triumphant finale but a somber, battlefield-heavy closer that prioritizes sacrifice and loyalty over easy resolution. Pacing is relentless, leaving little room to breathe. A fitting capstone that sets the stage for what comes next.
