Shu is intentionally written as weak and passive here, but it can definitely be frustrating watching him freeze up constantly. The self-loathing angle works emotionally, though, because the episode clearly frames his cowardice as something he hates about himself

Inori’s introduction is honestly iconic. A mysterious pink-haired singer who has a secret??? Damn. EGOIST’s music absolutely carries the atmosphere of the episode too 😭

This first episode is basically pure “2010s anime spectacle” energy from start to finish 😭 The visuals, soundtrack, and dramatic presentation immediately hit HARD even if the actual story setup is kinda chaotic

A pretty solid opening episode for the series! Really liking the whole sci-fi and dystopian vibes happening, and also props for the amazing animation! Everything looks really nice and smooth. That fight/sword scene at the end along with the OST was also pretty cool! Although, I do hope we get a bit more context of what the power/magic system or overall what is happening in the next episodes HAHA.

Unique way to start an anime's first episode. An emotional and action-packed start with added mystery. Great choice for the soundtrack. Although there are a few animation dips, the visual style is great for an old anime like this.

There are staggering inconsistencies in the quality of the animation, from low-qual mundane train scenes to cool fight scenes, and THEN to actual robots. But Shu Ouma himself seemed like a whiny pansy at first, but became cool and important at the end of the episode. 7/10
