the narrative continues to heavily rely on comedic relief and absurd character dynamics rather than any actual sports progression, though they finally attempt a dive.

Aina’s welcome party at the club was rather flamboyant. The serious diving plot-points always provide the audience a brief breather from the usual blast of comedy. The animation that is used to portray the underwater world is superb. The pace complements characters and the plot.

Felt bad for Aina! She's exhausted from the boy's "stripping" game😂. Her diving experience is beautifully captured which adds a nice layer to the pacing. And that "exam" scenes are legendary!!!

I enjoy the rivalries among the men in this episode. So overly dramatic but funny. The pacing worked seamlessly in this episode. In general, the directing has gotten better for the series!

This episode just doubles down on everything—friendship, stupidity, and peak comedy timing. The group chemistry is fully locked in now, and even the dumbest scenes feel iconic. Maybe a bit too over-the-top for some, but if you’re here, you’re already hooked 😭

Seeing Iori and Kohei finally get their gear and become "buddies" was surprisingly wholesome, even if it was buried under the usual chaos. The way they practiced the buddy system on land while just looking like two weirdos in the middle of the shop was hilarious.

EPISODE CONTEXT

Sitting at the exact midpoint of the twelve-episode run, 'First Buddy' follows the misadventures of 'Too Late' and pivots toward expanding the core cast by integrating Aina into the diving club, adding a new comedic variable to an already volatile group. The episode emphasizes teamwork and the buddy system in diving, laying essential groundwork for 'Doubles,' where the club's bonds face more direct competitive pressure. It marks a turning point from pure chaotic introductions to building the unity the back half of the season will depend on.
