Episode 84 kicks off the Hardboiled Detective Arc, pivoting from the comedic standalone tone of 'Rank Has Nothing to Do with Luck' into a short narrative arc with more structured character development. It establishes Kozenigata Heiji and his pursuit of Chogoro the Foxfire, laying the groundwork that carries directly into the next episode. Sitting at roughly the midpoint of Gintama's 201-episode run, this arc exemplifies the series' ability to introduce compelling one-off characters while keeping the Yorozuya at the center.
