Wow, the father-son story in this episode was incredibly insightful. The appearance of a new character also made me very curious about Gintoki's past. The storyline fit perfectly.

Now, goosebumps. This episode completely shifted from the usual comedy and turned into an actual shounen-style story for once. Truly a goated episode!

This episode was really interesting as the story expanded and some mysteries were unraveled. Honestly, it’s such a hyped episode, delivering comedy, action, and emotional moments in a perfectly balanced way.

Episode Context

Episode 17 marks the beginning of the Gengai Arc, pivoting from the standalone Hasegawa-focused story that preceded it into a more consequential narrative thread. This arc introduces key players, particularly the inventor Gengai and the shadowy Takasugi Shinsuke, whose roles will ripple through future storylines, making this an important early foundation episode within Gintama's sprawling 201-episode first season.
