Episode Context

Sitting at episode 149 of 201, this is deep into Gintama's long-form run where the series increasingly balances its episodic comedy with more sustained multi-episode storylines. This episode continues directly from the previous installment's setup, placing Hijikata and Okita into a developing arc that escalates from here into subsequent episodes. It represents the kind of Shinsengumi-focused narrative thread that becomes more frequent in the show's latter half, building toward the larger conflicts ahead.
