Episode Context

Deep into the Farewell Shinsengumi Arc, this episode follows the prison break sequence and escalates the rescue operation for Kondo and Katsura as the allied forces push into enemy territory. It marks a critical escalation point with only four episodes remaining in the season, sustaining the arc's momentum at its most action-heavy stretch. The next episode, 'Undelivered Mail,' shifts gears to explore Isaburo Sasaki's backstory and the Shinsengumi's past, meaning this is the last pure battlefield push before the arc turns toward its emotional endgame.
