Episode Context

Arriving at episode 86 of 100, this is firmly in the series' final stretch, following the intense confrontation teased in Episode 85's 'Youkai Castle's Secret Weapon' storyline involving Kitarou under serious pressure. This Ushirogami episode appears to function as a standalone yokai-of-the-week entry that provides a tonal shift before Episode 87 pivots to 'The Golem's Tears,' suggesting the series is cycling through varied emotional registers as it approaches its conclusion.
