EPISODE CONTEXT
Four episodes in, Gankutsuou has finished establishing its dazzling surface and is now beginning to peel it back. Following Albert's deepening fascination with the Count in episode three, 'Mother's Secret' plants the seeds of a much darker family history that will complicate every relationship going forward. It leads directly into episode five, 'Do You Love Your Betrothed?', suggesting the personal and romantic stakes are about to be raised alongside the mystery.
