Though I Am an Inept Villainess

THOUGH I AM AN INEPT VILLAINESS HAS NO VOTE THIS WEEK
Synopsis
When a body-swapping spell tears through an imperial court against one woman's will, the fallout is way more compelling than it has any right to be. Futsutsuka na Akujo dewa Gozaimasu ga is set in a gorgeous historical Chinese-inspired kingdom where five noble clans each put forward a daughter to compete for the role of empress. Kou Reirin is the frontrunner, elegant, virtuous, basically flawless, except her body is so frail she can barely stand. Meanwhile, Shu Keigetsu is the so-called "court rat," looked down on by everyone and seething with envy. During the Lantern Festival, Keigetsu uses magic to steal Reirin's body and identity. Now Reirin is stuck in Keigetsu's healthy but socially worthless body, trying to navigate a court that suddenly treats her like trash. The hook here is watching someone whose power was always tied to status and reputation figure out who she really is when all of that gets stripped away. Doga Kobo is handling the animation, the source is a light novel, and the villainess angle gives it a different flavor than your standard court drama. If you liked the court intrigue vibes of My Next Life as a Villainess but wanted something with more teeth, or if The Executioner and Her Way of Life sold you on fantasy stories centering women with actual stakes, this one's worth keeping on your radar for 2026.

Amazing story with a nice premise with very fun characters
I can't stop thinking about how Keigetsu only wanted to be loved. Shu Kikei played both of them and she never even saw it coming. Watching her realize that in the flame vision was brutal
The flame scene wrecked me. Keigetsu begging to die and Reirin just refusing while listing all the things that make her strong. That's the kind of kindness that changes someone forever
The candle spell scene wrecked me. Keigetsu begging to be killed while Reirin just smiled and praised her instead. That switch from hatred to blushing apology was so good. Gabi setting up both of them to die in the swap is genuinely evil.
The Kodoku revelation reframes everything. Reirin wasn't born weak she was poisoned as a CHILD. And Shu Kikei nudged Keigetsu into the swap knowing both would die. That's not a conspiracy that's a slaughter. Also the hand gesture thing has me yelling at the screen every time she does it
Reirin keeps acting like a brainless ball of sunshine but she just pieced together a whole fake identity from a stolen robe and a missing report. Nobody's giving her enough credit. She's playing everyone and it's honestly terrifying watching her pretend to be dumb
That candle scene wrecked me. Keigetsu begging to be killed while Reirin just smiled and told her she was strong for surviving ten days in that frail body. Went from hating her to wanting to hug her in one episode
I love this anime !!!!!!!
This is really interesting. I already have something that I want to happen. I want a lot of female interactions and friendships, I like the captain's look way better than the crown prince so I'm hoping the MC ends up with him and Keigetsu can take the prince. I also want Keigetsu to have a lot more impact and nuance in this show.

Amazing
Gyokurei washing her wound with sacred spring water and apologizing was so tender I almost forgot he's still suspicious of her. Then Tatsuyu barges in with the Empress collapsed and the whole mood shifts. Doga Kobo really knows how to build dread
Hasn't been a bad episode thus far and we're sure as hell not gonna start now. This episode, we deal with the fallout of the secret coming out among a select few and everyone's opinions regarding that, which was definitely fun to watch, however, it made me wonder just where this series was going to go now that the main plot wasn't really unknown anymore. Thankfully, we also had the introduction of a new plot point which is in some way already starting to impact the characters in the show, and I assume it'll keep doing so the more we get into it. Additionally, we also got to see some flashbacks of the older cast during their younger days, so we're getting some much needed development in that aspect too. All in all, fantastic episode with everything done in a superb way.
