I cannot believe Alphonse just pulled off alchemy without a circle and seeing Ed get so annoyed about his little brother catching up was the highlight for me

Seeing King Bradley do a magical girl transformation is something that can never be unseen, and Greed just giving up immediately is the only logical reaction to that

Ling showing up and just eating everything while Ed pays was hilarious but those bodyguards are no joke and they can actually fight

I was not expecting Al to just clap his hands and fix that radio without a circle, but it was such a great moment for him to finally catch up to his brother. The whole introduction of the Xingese characters changes the atmosphere, and Ling is already a personal favorite because he acts like a goof but clearly hides a lot of power.

The new opening music is great and it really fits the introduction of these medical alchemy concepts and the new Xingese crew

My favorite thing about this episode was the weirdly human talk between Hohenheim and Father at that oden stall, because seeing them complain about their kids was oddly relatable and it was a nice break since the introduction of Ling and those bodyguards added so much new energy to the story and I am really curious about what this alkahestry can actually do

The name battle between Bradley and Scar was hilarious because they both have way too many middle names and Bradley biting his tongue at the end was the perfect way to finish it

Winry is going to be absolutely furious when she finds out Edward broke his leg again and he is definitely getting hit with a wrench

Expanding the map to include Xing makes the whole world feel way bigger and the slower pace of the episode was good for building up the new characters

Learning about alkahestry from May Chang and seeing how it differs from the alchemy everyone knows really opens up the world map and the politics in Xing

Al's new ability to transmute without a circle proves he is just as talented as Ed and it was a long time coming for him

The change in tone was a bit jarring after all that heavy stuff but meeting Ling and May Chang makes the whole setting feel way bigger than just Central City

I was so happy for Al when he finally did alchemy without a circle and seeing Ed get all petty and jealous made the moment even better

Why did Fu use his final breath to write down the name of an old murder mystery game instead of something helpful for Lan Fan and his death scene was so dramatic for no reason

Mei is very cute but her dream of a tall Edward is going to end so badly for her once she actually sees him

I felt a huge wave of relief seeing Al use alchemy without a circle and it really shows how much he has grown since the start of the journey

Ling is such a shady character and his constant hunger is almost like Gluttony but he moves so fast when he actually tries

The way Ling just eats everything in sight is funny, but he clearly has some serious skills if he can keep up with Ed.

I really enjoyed seeing Al finally use alchemy without a circle and it makes him feel so much more capable now

Scar's arc is becoming more intriguing. Can't wait to see how this new kid character syncs up with the main cast. And I wonder if Ling has some connection with her too.

EPISODE CONTEXT

Coming off the intense revelations and underground confrontations of the previous stretch, this episode functions as a deliberate narrative breather at roughly the quarter-mark of Brotherhood's 64-episode run. The introduction of Ling Yao, Lan Fan, and Fu from Xing plants seeds that will grow into major storyline branches, expanding the scope of the series well beyond Amestris and its military alchemy. It bridges the darker early conspiracies with the broader, more complex geopolitical narrative that defines Brotherhood's middle and later acts.
